WELCOME TO SEWING ORLANDO

Where Creativity Meets Confidence—One Stitch at a Time

Hello, I'm Rachel, a certified sewing teacher in Florida, USA, offering fun and educational curriculum designed to help build a strong foundation in sewing. For over 60 years, I’ve been sewing and for more than 25 years I’ve been teaching students of all ages how to sew—not just to follow patterns, but how to understand, design, and create clothing and accessories they can truly be proud of. That feeling of “I made this!” is powerful.

Where beginners learn to Sew with Confidence! |

No big, crowded classrooms. No “sink or swim” hope you learn approach. Instead, I work with students one-on-one or in small pairs, allowing me to adapt to their pace, their skill level, and their learning style. Whether a tote bag takes 3 hours or 5, I follow the student's pace and celebrate progress at every step.

Skill Tracks That Grow With each Student Designer

I’ve created a 7-level beginner system designed to take students from the very basics to advanced beginner. These are not “cookie-cutter” lessons. Each student moves forward only when they’re ready, so no one is rushed, and no one is held back. Each level is a 4-week course (with 1, 1.5 2, or 3 hour class per session). Each level will take an average of 2-2.5 hours to complete. Students move at their own pave but each items we sew is geared towards mastery—step by step, project by project, so no one is rushed, and no one is held back.

I am not just teaching sewing, I am building confidence. Every lesson is built to help students feel proud of their work, inspired by their progress, and excited to keep going. In a world full of comparison and pressure, learning to make something with your “own hands” can be incredibly healing and empowering and I might have learning to make something a robot of the future can not come up with is also an added bonus!

Sewing falls comfortably in this bracket as a creative skill-based lesson with long-term value (fine motor skills, patience, design thinking, and even entrepreneurship). Sewing has the added advantage of physical take-home results (a finished project), which I love for students as “bragging rights” begin with the first completed project! In Orlando, you may find someone offering a cheaper rate or might want to wait for grandma to come over and teach, but chances are these others have not put in the time and energy to pay for all the business licenses and fees and insurance for a business nor are considered a highly trained seamstress with over 25 years under their belt teaching adults and students how to sew. I can guarantee results as Ive never not been able to teach a student how to sew and be proud of their new skill.

Meet Rachel Scott – A Lifetime of Sewing, A Passion for Teaching

Hello! I’m Rachel Scott, and I’ve been sewing for over 60 years! I grew up in a sewing workroom where my mother crafted custom draperies — including the drapes that hung in the U.S. Senate Chambers inside the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. In the spirit of “Betsy Ross,” sewing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a high school and college student, I perfected my skills by taking tailoring and costume design classes. These classes gave me the confidence to never feel intimidated by a piece of fabric! Over the years, I’ve made nearly my entire wardrobe — always staying up to date with current trends. One of my favorite challenges has been recreating designer outfits from a single picture — like the time I made a $1,500 YSL dinner dress for just $15! (I even found the exact same fabric YSL used for his dress!) For years, I traveled from Maryland to New York City’s designer fashion district and scored all kinds of incredible finds. Wahoo! There’s nothing more satisfying for any sewist than knowing: “If I can see it, I can make it!” While homeschooling my eight children, I began teaching sewing to my five daughters and their friends. What started as casual sewing lessons and small projects quickly became full-on sewing marathons, weekend workshops, and Hobby Lobby summer camps — always ending in a fashion show where my student seamstresses could proudly showcase their work to their families. Over the years, I’ve taught countless students who now greet me with, “Do you remember me? You taught me how to sew!” It never gets old. Now, I’m passing on those same skills to my grandchildren and opening my studio to a new generation of young creators!
